Bishop Ryan High School Declared Surplus
|
|
The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board has officially declared Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School at 50 Albright Road as surplus. The property is 16.53 acres in size, and provincial legislation requires the School Board to offer surplus properties to municipalities at fair market value prior to offering it to local developers. In addition to the education services the facility provides, the gymnasium of the school serves area residents utilizing the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Recreation Centre, and the fields north of the school provide much needed park lands for area residents and school children. As such, I'll be requesting that the City officially respond to the School Board's offer by the required June 28, 2012 deadline to investigate the possible purchase of some or all of the site. Please note that the school is still scheduled to operate for one additional school year.
